The owner of Lytham Driving School is Adrian Smith, who has been a driving instructor for over 25 years. He is a Grade A driving instructor, graded by the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA).

Extensive Driving Experience

Before becoming a driving instructor, Adrian served 10 years in the Royal Marines. During this time, he drove a wide variety of vehicles in challenging environments, including Arctic, desert, jungle, and mountain terrains.

He also holds CE (Heavy Goods Vehicles) and DE (Bus and Coach) categories on his driving licence

Before moving to Lytham St Annes, Adrian was the director of a driving school in Preston, managing a team of driving instructors. He was previously a member of the Official Register of Driving Instructor Trainers (ORDIT), helping train individuals to become driving instructors—many of whom now run their own driving schools across North West England.

He also specialised in BE (Car and Trailer) towing test training before the government discontinued these tests in December 2021 to prioritise more HGV driving tests in response to the HGV driver shortage.

Additional Qualifications

Adrian is also a qualified Ship Security Officer (SSO). In addition to running his driving school, he worked on short-term contracts for maritime security companies, providing armed protection for shipping vessels transiting the Indian Ocean and other high-risk areas against piracy threats.
